The HLV
Before becoming The Headlocks, four lawyers – Bob Cox, Tad Witherington, Jim Maher and Tom Calvocoressi –collectively made the move in 1997 from acoustic to electric music. From that first night in Bob Cox’s New haven basement, the band then moved to Hartford, CT’s Colt Building (the Shed as we called it back then…) and then to the SoGlo Studios (with the famous Quiet Room) in Tad’s South Glastonbury, CT, homes. Along the way Bob left to do his own thing, and Jim Magson joined on bass, bringing his own rock sensibility as the band continued to develop its music in residencies at the High Lane Club and The Cotton Gin in Hamden, CT, and then in Jim Magson’s Hamden basement. Mark Ferraro joined later and soon after the band moved to the bunker by Meriden Station where the band has for more than 10 years made new music. The Headlocks – who became The HLV rather than dispute with the Staten Island Headlocks as to whether the boys’ prior use of the name was conducted in interstate commerce – produced and distributed 4 albums, 3 of which are available for free streaming. You can find links to stream these three Headlocks records, “Once Removed,” Watch Your Step” and “IV” below. In 2022, Tad and spouse moved to Santa Fe, and The Headlocks became a very happy memory. We hope you enjoy some of this Other Cool Stuff!
